By now there’s been ample time to digest the consequences of AT&T’s 2 gigabyte data cap initiated earlier this summer. Would it be too little? Are the prices fair? These were some of the questions that only time and usage could aptly answer. Well, I’ve done the time, and I’ve certainly put in my fair share of mileage on my iPhone 4 to be able to draw a conclusion.
At for 2,048 MB of data, that amounts to about .01220703 cents per megabyte. So a little over a penny per megabyte. Sounds fair enough. But cost was never the huge factor in my worries about AT&T’s new guidelines, real world usage was. In other words, how would my normal usage be affected by these new rules? Would I always have the data cap in the back of my mind causing me to stress unnecessarily? That’s something I didn’t want to have to put up with… Read More
As Apple TV (2010) makes its way out into the world people are figuring out more of what you can and can’t do with it, including Engadget who says there’s 1080p in (but not out) via iTunes:
We just ran some tests on the AppleTV’s playback limits by streaming 1080p movie trailers in iTunes and managed to verify murmurs saying the device can accept 1080p content. Unfortunately, output is a different story, since it downscales the image back to 720p on your display
TUAW meanwhile plugged it into PhoneView to access the AFC service area, tried Ping (the network IP command, not iTunes social music!), VLC, used TinyUmbrella to save SHSH blobs, and more:
You can register your Apple TV device in Xcode (it shows up immediately) to the iOS developer portal but you cannot perform any actual development — yet. Xcode complains that Apple TV does not “support development”. Bummer that.
Sounds like there will be fun times ahead, especially for the Jailbreak community.
Big Games, Great Prices. That’s the name of the featured section currently at the top of the App Store, and I must say the title fits quite well. “Big Games?” Well there’s more than enough heavy hitters in this list of 50 games to warrant that title. With entries from big names like SEGA, PopCap Games, EA, and CAPCOM — false advertising this is not.
And what about those “Great Prices?” While exactly half of the titles scrape the bottom of the barrel at 99 cents, you won’t find a single game in this list for a hair over .99. So why not go ahead and take a Risk with Solid Snake on a Real Race to the Mirror’s Edge? Okay, I know that was bad, but consider the full list my redemption… Read More
If the Hummer was an iPhone case, it would probably be the Abee Aluminium Jacket for iPhone. This is definitely not going to cater to everybody’s needs but I’m sure there is a market for this case, maybe in the army?
Japanese company Abee came out with an aluminum case called the Type 01 that reminds us of the Vapor case, just a bit more rough looking… Read More
I rarely if ever write about iPhone apps updates but today I felt compelled to do it for 2 reasons. One, Angry Birds is freaking awesome. Two, this game is a good example of what every iPhone developer should do.
Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last few months, you most likely have heard of Angry Birds, a game where you have to throw birds at evil pigs. Sounds terrible, doesn’t it? It is however as addictive as heroin, so play with care… Read More
Is HDR photo capabilities coming to the iPhone 3GS? It seems like it looking at the discovery 9 to 5 Mac made of what appears to be a future HDR feature in the 3GS. As you can see in this image, there are two icons for the HDR feature inside the SDK. One clearly is for the iPhone 4 Retina Display, and the other is for an iPhone without the Retina Display, which most likely is the iPhone 3GS.
This seems to be pretty good news if it is indeed for real. On the other hand, it could very well be a feature that Apple decided to drop at the last minute which would mean the 3GS will never get HDR… Read More
Nice promo video for a very good looking new educational app for the iPad. It’s called HMH Fuse: Algebra 1 and it’s been developed by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Four school districts in California started piloting the app this month.
Paper Toss HD and Paper Toss World Tour HD are both now live in the App Store. Hurrah.
Paper Toss has been one of my favorite games on the iPhone for ages, ever since it first came out over a year ago. It’s still on every iPhone and Touch in our house – and even though it’s a free app it has continued to get regular new updates from its developers, Backflip Studios.
Paper Toss World Tour took an already great casual game and raised it several levels. So I am very happy to see that both titles have now got proper iPad versions.
